First Japanese to Receive Best Paper Award

The ebook type learning platform “CHiLO” received the Best Paper Award Silver Medal at the 28th Annual Conference of the Asian Association of Open Universities held at the Open University of Hong Kong on October 2014.

The theme of the conference was “Advancing Open and Distance Learning: Research and Practices” and among the 300 submitted papers, one Best Paper Award Gold Medal and two Best Paper Award Silver Medals were given.

The award-winning paper was titled “Learner Autonomy through Adoption of OER using SNS and Multi-media E-textbooks” and was a joint research made through the pilot study in a course of the Open University of Japan-MOOC utilizing CHiLO Books, written by Masumi Hori (NPO CCC-TIES), Seishi Ono (NPO CCC-TIES), Shinji Kobayashi (smileNC), Kazutsuna Yamaji(National Institute of Informatics), Toshihiro Kita (University of Kumamoto), and Tsuneo Yamada (Open University of Japan).

It was the first time for Japan to receive the Best Paper Award since its entry in this conference.
